Major John Somerled Thorpe was born in 1873 and inherited estates in Coddington and Ardbrecknish on Loch Awe, Scotland, in 1902 from his father, Colonel James Thorpe, who had a successful life heading the family firm of maltsters in Newark.

 

John Somerled Thorpe died on 15 September 1916 Age 44

Remembered with Honour Carnoy Military Cemetery

2nd Bn., Scots Guards.

In 1969 Paten & Co took over the Maltings on Alderman's Drive.  Their previous blending & bottling department was on the first floor of the Black Boy & Trumpet on Long Causeway, Peterborough

 

Demolished in 2010 and it is now a care home named "The Maltings".

 

 

Between the years 1881 - 1891 The Maltings on Alderman's Drive were known as "Harrison's Maltings".
